Risk disclosure

Trading is risky and most people lose money. Please read this before you trade, even if you only plan to practise for now.

Draft v1Last updated 9 min read

DraftA lawyer will review this before accounts go live, so some details may change. Company registration in progress. Full legal details will be published here once registration completes. Words in [brackets] are details we will confirm. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it in plain words.

The short version

  • About 9 in 10 individual F&O traders in India lost money in FY25, according to SEBI.
  • Leverage makes losses as big as wins. A 1% move can wipe out a whole account.
  • If you live in India, trade forex only through RBI-authorised routes, and check RBI’s Alert List.
  • Crypto can lose all its value. In India it is taxed at 30% plus 1% TDS.
  • We teach; we don’t advise. Past results, AI and tools can’t tell you what happens next.

This summary helps you find your way. The full text below is what counts.

01Most people who trade lose money

Trading forex, gold, crypto or indices is risky. Prices can move fast and against you, and you can lose some or all of your money. With leverage, you can lose it very quickly.

The numbers are clear. India’s market regulator SEBI studied individual traders in equity futures and options (F&O):

9 in 10individual F&O traders in India lost money in FY25 (about 91%). In FY26 it was 87.7%, with net losses of roughly US$10 billion.Filled dots: lost money. Dashed dot: did not. Source: SEBI study, August 2026.

Read the SEBI study. Only trade with money you can afford to lose completely, and never with borrowed money.

02We teach. We don’t advise.

  • Everything on CandleHall is for education. Nothing here is investment advice or a tip to buy or sell.
  • CandleHall and the Calm Doji mentor are not registered with SEBI as Investment Advisers or Research Analysts, or with any other regulator.
  • Examples in lessons show how markets work. They are not predictions, and they are not what you should do next.
  • Every decision you make, and its result, is yours.

03Leverage, in plain words

Leverage lets you open a trade bigger than the money in your account. The broker lends you the rest. It makes wins bigger, and it makes losses bigger by exactly the same amount.

Leverage at work

Example
Your money in the account
$1,000
Leverage
1:100
Size of trade you can open
$100,000
Price moves against you by
1%
Your loss
$1,000

A 1% move wiped out the whole account. Prices move 1% in a day all the time.

MarginThe part of your own money that is locked to keep a leveraged trade open.
Margin callWhen losses eat into your margin, the broker can close your trades for you, often at the worst moment.
LotA standard trade size. One standard forex lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, so even small price moves are worth a lot of money.
PipA tiny price step. For most currency pairs it is 0.0001. How much a pip is worth depends on your lot size.
DrawdownHow far your account has fallen from its highest point. A 50% drawdown needs a 100% gain just to get back to where you were.

04Forex and gold

  • Forex and gold trade almost 24 hours a day. News (for example interest rate decisions or jobs data) can make prices jump in seconds.
  • Prices can gap: jump from one price to another with nothing in between, often over a weekend. Your stop-loss may then fill at a much worse price than you set.
  • Spreads (the gap between buy and sell prices) can widen sharply around news and at quiet hours.
  • Most retail forex and gold trading is done with CFDs: contracts with a broker, not ownership of anything. If the broker is poorly regulated or fails, your money may be at risk. We don’t recommend or partner with any broker.

05Forex if you live in India

We follow the rules where you live. For people living in India, the rules are:

  • You may trade forex only through RBI-authorised persons, on RBI-authorised platforms or recognised Indian exchanges (NSE, BSE, MSE). See the RBI FAQ.
  • Sending money abroad to trade on margin is not allowed, including under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme.
  • On Indian exchanges, currency pairs against the rupee are for hedging only. Cross-currency pairs such as EUR-USD are allowed.
  • Before using any platform, check RBI’s Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms. It includes well-known offshore brokers, trading apps and prop firms.
  • Breaking these rules can lead to penalties under FEMA.

What this means on CandleHall

If you live in India, you won’t see MT4/MT5 sync or offshore broker links, and hosted Rooms can’t show them to you. You still get crypto sync with FIU-IND registered exchanges, Indian index lessons and file upload.

06Crypto

  • Crypto prices can swing by 10% or more in a day, and a coin can lose all its value.
  • Exchanges can be hacked, freeze withdrawals or shut down. Keep only what you need on an exchange.
  • Small coins are easy to manipulate. Be very careful with anyone hyping a coin, especially if they don’t say they own it.
  • In India, crypto is not legal tender. Gains are taxed at 30%, a 1% TDS applies to transfers, and losses can’t be set off against other gains. Use only exchanges registered with FIU-IND. Rules may change, so check the latest.

07Indices

  • An index, such as Nifty 50 or NAS100, tracks a basket of company shares. It can still fall fast, and index derivatives use leverage.
  • Nifty and Bank Nifty futures and options trade on NSE and BSE through SEBI-registered brokers. Options can lose all their value by expiry, sometimes within hours.
  • US30, NAS100 and GER40 are usually traded as CFDs with offshore brokers. For people living in India they fall under the same rules as forex above.
  • When our lessons discuss a named Indian security or index, they use price data at least 30 days old, as SEBI requires for educators.

08Past results and verified records

  • Past results don’t predict future results. A trader who did well last year can lose this year.
  • A verified badge on CandleHall means trades came straight from a broker or exchange through a read-only connection. It proves the history of that account. It doesn’t prove the person shows all their accounts, so we label a “selected account” clearly.
  • Demo and live accounts are always labelled. Demo results involve no real money or real emotions.
  • Leaderboards rank discipline (for example journaling and using stop-losses), not profit, and never reward the biggest gain.
  • Screenshots of profits prove nothing. They are easy to edit and easy to cherry-pick.

09Hosted communities are independent

Rooms hosted on CandleHall are run by independent owners. They sign our Hall Rules, but we don’t check or endorse what they teach, and their views are their own.

  • No one on CandleHall may give buy or sell calls on Indian securities unless they are SEBI-registered.
  • Anyone who promises profits, asks you to send money outside checkout, or offers to trade for you is breaking our rules.
  • Please report it with the Report button, or write to our Grievance Officer.

10The Calm Doji mentor is a brand character

The Calm Doji mentor is our teaching character, with no public name or face. Our teaching team is behind it. Any video or voice made with AI is labelled. The mentor never promises returns, never gives buy or sell calls, and shows losing trades too.

11AI can be wrong

AI reviews and the AI coach are automatic. They can misread your data, miss context or simply be wrong. They look back at your own trades to help you learn. They are not advice, and they don’t know what the market will do next.

12Tools give educational estimates

  • Calculators (position size, pip value, lot size) give estimates. Your broker’s contract sizes, fees, swaps and exchange rates can differ. Check with your broker before you trade.
  • Candle replay uses past prices. It has no slippage (getting a worse price than you asked for) and none of the stress of real money, so real trading feels harder.
  • Market data on our site can be delayed. Don’t use it to place live trades.

13Before you trade: a short checklist

  • Only use money you can afford to lose completely. Never borrow to trade.
  • Decide your risk per trade before you enter. Many traders keep it to 1% of the account or less.
  • Always know where your stop-loss is, and remember gaps can skip past it.
  • Check who you trade with: SEBI registration, RBI’s Alert List, FIU-IND registration.
  • Understand the tax where you live, and keep records. Your journal helps.
  • For personal advice, speak to a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser or a licensed adviser where you live.

If trading is hurting you

If trading is causing you stress, debt or sleepless nights, stop for a while and talk to someone you trust. Stepping back is a skill, not a failure.
